Nationals 2006 (Orlando, FL)

Beantown Rugby Football Club was founded in the fall of 1976 and quickly established itself as one of the nation's preeminent women's rugby teams. That reputation endures today in a sport that continues to grow in popularity among women, both at the college and club levels.

From 1982 through the spring of 2003, Beantown has amassed an overall record of 639-61. We have compiled an equally distinguished record at the National Championships Tournament, first held in the late 1970s: in 24 consecutive appearances since 1980, we have placed 6 times at first, 7 times at second, 6 times at third, 2 time at fourth, and 3 times at fifth.

Its high level of technical play and teamsmanship has consistently dominated tournaments around the country, including the New England Championships, the DC Ruggerfest, the Saranac Lake Can-Am, Philadelphia Pumpkinfest, and Heart of America (Kansas City). In 1995, Beantown won the inaugural Northeast Territorial Championship.

The quality of Beantown's rugby talent and the intensity of its dedication to the sport are reflected in the many players it has sent to the U.S. Women's National Side (the Eagles) since the side's inception in 1987.

The sincerity and depth of Beantown's dedication to rugby, especially to its development as a sport for women, are also reflected in the numerous college clinics and tournaments it has conducted over the years. At the clinics, held yearly in the spring, Beantown coaches and players share their knowledge and enthusiasm with younger players by running drills, reviewing specific skills, and setting up game situations.

The clinics are then followed in the fall by the annual tournament. Attracting teams from all over the northeast United States and beyond, Beantown's tournament is one of the largest competitive forums for women's collegiate rugby in the country. Typically organized for three rounds of play, teams from Division I, Division II, and Division III compete within their respective bracket to reach the final round, where the division winner is determined.

Beantown coaches and players come from around the country and from all walks of life -- we are teachers, doctors, and lawyers; we work in computers, finance, and publishing; we are trade workers, graduate students, and aspiring artists. What we share in common is an abiding love and respect for rugby. It is this love and respect that drive our relentless pursuit of excellence in the gym and on the field, in-season and off-season, as teammates and as friends.

If you are interested in playing rugby with us, we welcome you and invite you to check us out. Thank you and enjoy our website.
